Can code inspection machine
1.Multi module, no dead angle detection
2.A self-developed detection software system, stable detection, fast processing, maximum detection speed of up to 1200 cans/ min
3.Independent research and development of image processing algorithm can accurately identify code, high precisio n identification
I. Equipment Overview
1. Application
This system is designed for online inspection of inkjet printing on the bottoms of cans in high-speed production lines. It automatically identifies and rejects cans with defective or missing bottom codes, ensuring product traceability and quality control.
2. Key Features
Non-contact inline inspection — prevents any damage to the can body.
High-speed detection — capable of handling up to 72,000 cans per hour.
Advanced code recognition — supports automatic detection of date codes (year/month/day), fixed information (e.g., factory codes TN, HB, GM, HG, “Qualified” marks, anti-counterfeiting codes), and includes error correction. The system can auto-adjust date settings without manual intervention.
User-friendly HMI — intuitive interface with multi-level access control.
Efficient character training — fast setup and adjustment for different coding formats.
Encoder-based counting system — installed on the conveyor’s synchronous motor; ensures precise rejection accuracy regardless of line stops or speed changes.
Industrial-grade cooling — prevents system failures and alarms during prolonged high-temperature operation in summer.
Customizable functions — tailored to meet specific customer production requirements.
Defect image storage — automatically saves images of rejected cans, organized by date, with customizable retention time.
Optimized software algorithm — Maotong’s latest inspection system filters out interference from logos (e.g., Yangyuan) and surface scratches, significantly reducing false rejects.
Continuous reject and line-stop capability — ensures production quality and safety.
24/7 remote monitoring and control.
Full 360° inspection — complete coverage with no blind spots.
Zero-delay detection — prevents false rejections caused by line friction, jams, obstructions, or manual can placement.
II. Detection Capabilities
Code presence check — verifies if inkjet printing exists (cover printing, missing codes, inverted cans).
Blurred code detection — identifies unreadable or distorted characters.
Printing error detection — validates year/month/day, factory codes, and anti-counterfeiting codes.
Character omission — accurately identifies missing characters when more than 20% of a code is incomplete.
Character recognition — interprets and decodes inkjet printing data.
Position accuracy — detects deviations beyond defined tolerances.
Duplicate code detection — flags multiple or repeated codes.
Note:
A major technical advantage of this system lies in its ability to detect printing errors and individual character anomalies. Verification is straightforward: cans produced today can be reintroduced to the line on a different day, and the system will reliably detect and reject incorrect codes.
3. Installation location
4. Detection principle
A Gigabit Ethernet digital camera takes photos from above, digitally analyzes the captured images, and rejects unqualified cans.
Cans pass a positioning sensor, which detects their arrival. The control unit records the can's identification number and the current encoder signal. The positioning sensor triggers the digital camera to capture the image of the can's current coding and transmits it to the image processor via the network. The image processor processes and analyzes the received image and transmits the results to both the human-machine interface for dynamic display and the control unit. Upon receiving the unqualified signal, the control unit notifies the rejector to remove unqualified cans with the corresponding identification number online.

D.Detection accuracy:
serial number
| Inspection Items | Testing conditions and accuracy
| Rejection rate
| False kick rate
|
1 | Inkjet Printing Inspection | -- | -- | < = 0.03% |
1.1 | No inkjet printing (printed on the cover, missing inkjet printing, can inverted) | -- | >99.99% | |
1.2 | Missing inkjet printing | Single character > 20%
| >99.8% | |
1.3 | Fuzzy inkjet printing | The human eye cannot recognize the inkjet characters
| >99.93% | |
1.4 | Incorrect inkjet printing | Wrong production date, wrong factory code, wrong security code, deformation (elongation or shortening)
| >99.99% | |
1.5 | Position offset | Beyond the expansion zone
| >99.99% | |
1.6 | Duplicate inkjet printing | Multiple code printing in the code area
| >99.99% |
Note: The rejection rate for the "No Coding" test item in the table indicates that for every 10,000 cans tested, there may be one that is not rejected. This is theoretical experimental data, and the same applies to other test items. The above test items are tested on a real-time basis for each can, not just during shift handovers.
